PURPOSE
MathMoms' purpose is to create a safe space where children come to learn maths and leave having learned much more.
They also accompany women on a journey of self-discovery in which they get to know their own gifts and strengths, so that they can confidently take their next step into the future.
VISION
Learner by learner, school by school, community by community, MathMoms aims to improve learners' maths results, resulting in an improved economy.
EACH MATHMOM IS MENTORED TO TUTOR FOUNDATION PHASE LEARNERS IN BASIC MATH SKILLS
Each MathMom works with two learners at a time during school hours, working with four learners per day. Children in their neighbourhoods also receive guidance from them. A MathMom is required to support at least four children at home with maths and homework, as well as make themselves available to assist in schools in other ways.
Mathmoms are equipped in various ways to build meaningful relationships in the classroom as well as in the community. The organisation invests in their personal growth to enable each of them to become a role model for the learners and in the community. The organisation's aim is to also build relationships among the MathMoms, within which they can experience belonging and mutual support.
MathMoms are mentored every step of the way by retired teachers who are strong and enthusiastic individuals. MathMom Mentors do not merely want to improve the teaching of maths, but also want to improve parental involvement in schools because the organisation believes that strong communities build strong schools.
